The Methodological Innovations (MI) Research Group have been running conferences and seminars since 2005 and Methodological Innovations Online was founded by members of the group. The group is focused on supporting and improving the understanding and application of contemporary approaches to the research of the social world. We draw upon techniques/methods used across the health and medical professionals, natural sciences, social sciences and humanities and our membership has extensive discipline specific and inter-disciplinary researchers.

Our conferences offer a unique opportunity to debate current and future issues of methodological relevance, with delegates drawn from different disciplines and professional areas.

See below for some examples and quotations from the site content about each event.

See our events page here, which will take you to content from the June 2021 conference and the June 2023 conference.

Methodological Innovations (MI) 2021

Welcomed by a Ping

Poem by Beth Moran
(Conference Delegate and Lecturer in Social Work at University of Plymouth)
A reminder of long-gone vendors of wares
As the ping welcomes those who arrive.
Listening to worlds shared with care and with love
Performing can help us to thrive.
Positions, permissions to chat with our fingers
The memories shaped and recorded now linger.
The impact stays with us, emotions connected
Creative solutions by which we’re affected.
